Head towards Kiel and you arrive on the other side of Schleswig-Holstein. Kiel Bay lies about 60 to 80 km to our east, around 50 to 75 minutes away. Fjord, beaches, fish rolls and maritime history shape this coast.
Rewarding destinations
The state capital on the fjord with its waterfront promenade, shipyards and folding Hörn bridge. In June the Kiel Week fills the city, so arrive early then.
The 85 m naval memorial with views as far as Denmark and the submarine U 995 you can walk through, right on the beach.
An old town over 700 years old, a long beach with wicker chairs and the Old Fish Smokehouse with live smoking.
One of the loveliest Kiel beaches, watch the ships between meadow and fine sand.
Fish rolls and the fjord
A fresh fish roll at the harbour is simply part of it, whether in Kiel, Laboe or Eckernförde. The fjord beaches are shallow and so ideal for families. The naval memorial and U 995 are a must for anyone keen on technology and history.
