Wide marsh and wetland areas, classic resting grounds for geese, waders and passing cranes.
Several hides and a viewing tower at the Eider estuary, top for waders, geese and sea eagles.
A World Heritage Site with millions of migrating birds, huge flocks move over the flats with the tides.
Season and tips
Cranes rest roughly from early September to late November, October is usually best, plus the spring migration in March and April. Dawn and dusk are loveliest for watching. Sea eagles can be spotted all year round. Bring binoculars and muted clothing, stay on the paths and do not disturb the birds.
